EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint four members to the Public Art Committee.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint four members to the Public Art Committee, to two-year terms expiring on April 12,
2025.
CONSIDERATIONS: This seven -member committee was established by Ordinance No. 21-49, to serve as a
forum for advancing public art in Collier County, and to make recommendations to the Board of County
Commissioners in matters relating to public art policies, issues, programs, and plans for the benefit of the citizens
of Collier County. Membership is comprised of persons with knowledge of and appreciation for the visual arts, with
preference given to members of local arts organizations, architects, planners, and working artists. Terms are for two
years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
There are two vacant seats on the committee, and two seats which expire on April 12, 2023. The vacancies were
advertised and applications were received from the following:

recommend the appointment of the following applicants to two-year terms expiring on April 12, 2025: Nora
Beyrent, Lisa Cataldo-Absher, Paul Gower, and Martha "Muffy" Gill. A recommendation memo is included in the
backup.

Summary
The Public Art Committee met on Wed. March 15, 2023, and has made the following recommendations
for appointment. These members will have a term of April 2023 — March 2025. The vote was
unanimous at 4-0.

Jonathan Martinez was selected as an alternate in case one of the four appointments declines
prior to starting their term.
Selection Process
The committee reviewed the following applicants at the March 15 meeting. The decision was based on
the artist's district so that all five districts were represented. Second, was their work in the arts and
culture sector.
With the current mix of representatives, District 3 and District 5 needed a representative. For the two
at -large representatives, the entire field of candidates was reviewed. The chart on the next page lists all
the candidates reviewed and the recommendation. All candidates selected will be new to the
committee; there were no reappointments.

This seven member committee was established by Ordinance No. 21-49, to serve as a forum for
advancing public art in Collier County, and to make recommendations to the Board of County

RESOLUTION NO. 2023 -
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, APPOINTING NORA BEYRENT, LISA
CATALDO-ABSHER, PAUL GOWER, AND MARTHA GILL TO THE
PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE.
WHEREAS, on December 14, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners adopted
Ordinance No. 21-49, establishing the Public Art Committee as a seven member committee to
serve as a forum for advancing public art in Collier County and to make recommendations to the
Board of County Commissioners in matters relating to public art policies; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 21-49 sets forth the appointment process for the Committee,
the terms of office, and the categories of representation required of its membership; and
WHEREAS, there are two vacant seats on the Committee, and two seats expiring on April
12,2023;and
WHEREAS, the Board previously provided public notice soliciting applications from
interested parties; and
WHEREAS, the Committee has provided the Board with its recommendations for
appointment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that NORA BEYRENT, LISA
CATALDO-ABSHER ' PAUL GOWER, and MARTHA GILL, each being identified as working
artists, are each hereby appointed to the Public Art Committee, to serve two-year terms expiring
on April 12, 2025.
THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED upon majority vote on this the I Ith day of April, 2023.
