Backup Documents 04/26/2022 Item # 4D 40 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Collier Community Foundation has been working with donors, leaders, and the community at large for more than 37 years to inspire ideas, ignite action, and mobilize resources to address community needs in Collier County; and WHEREAS, in 2017, Hurricane Irma devastated hundreds of trees throughout our communities, disrupting wildlife habitat and eliminating the benefit of helping with runoff and natural shade; and WHEREAS, the Collier Community Foundation launched the Your passion. Your Collier campaign to foster community support to financially address planting trees throughout our communities; and partnered with donors and raised $500,000 for tree planting and replacement. Special thanks to Cathy and Rob Funderburg for their significant support in this effort; and WHEREAS, in partnership with the Naples Botanical Gardens and the Collier County Parks & Recreation, a plan was developed and executed to provide and plant hundreds of new native trees throughout the entire County, including Marco Island, Everglades City, City of Naples, East Naples, Goodland, and Immokalee; and WHEREAS, Collier Community Foundation, in celebration of their 35th anniversary distributed more than 3,500 trees in collaboration with the Naples Botanical Gardens; and WHEREAS, the Collier Community Foundation continues to prove that it is a trusted community partner who optimizes charitable giving through knowledge of the community, providing powerful results; NOW THEREFORE, it is with great pride that the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, recognizes the Collier Community Foundation's significant investment in restoring and improving our communities' landscapes that will have a lasting and positive impact for generations to come.
