Agenda 2/14/2023 Item #16A11 (Update Gordon River Amil Gate Weir replacement Design Project No. 60102)02/ 14/2023
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept the February 2023 Project Update for Upper Gordon River Amil Gate Weir
Replacement Design (Project No. 60102).
OBJECTIVE: To keep the Board informed on major capital improvement projects.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Upper Gordon River watershed lies in eastern Collier County and encompasses
approximately 4,432 acres. The basin is comprised of predominately high density residential and golf course areas
bounded roughly by Orange Blossom Drive on the north, Airport Pulling Road on the east, Tamiami Trail North on
the west and Golden Gate Parkway on the south. This project consists of replacing the AMIL Gate Weir, installed
50 years ago, located on the south side of Golden Gate Parkway near the Freedom Park Greenway entryway. The
objective of the project is twofold; 1) to design an easily accessible and operable replacement weir structure that
can function as a salinity barrier that minimizes upstream water fluctuations and maximizes flood control for
adjacent properties and additional upstream flood relief projects, and 2) to develop the Supervisory Control and
Data Acquisition (SCADA) physical hardware or "backbone" that will allow this weir to be remotely operated and
provide a prototype that can be expanded to include other weir structures and level sensing devices.
The Project is nearing 100% design plans and bidding initiation is anticipated during the current quarter.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for this project is available within the Stormwater Capital Project Fund (325) and
Stormwater Bond Fund (327). The final design cost estimates for construction and construction engineering
inspection phases are $5,600,000. Funding will be allocated when the contract is awarded.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: The project is in conformance with the goals and objectives of the
Growth Management Plan.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal issues and
requires majority vote for any Board action. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board accept this project update.
