EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to authorize execution of the budget amendment to increase current funding for the
Collier County Sheriff’s General Fund (Law Enforcement) in the amount of $2.4M in order to cover
Overtime, the benefits on Overtime, and operating expenses related to Hurricane Ian.

OBJECTIVE: To increase current budget in the amount of $2.4M for Sheriff’s General Fund.
CONSIDERATION: Hurricane Ian made landfall on September 28, 2022. As a result, Sheriff’s Deputies have
been working continuous shifts providing safety and security to Collier County. These continuous shifts resulted in
unbudgeted overtime, the benefits on overtime, and operating expenses. The Sheriff's Office is requesting a budget
amendment to support these unbudgeted expenses from Hurricane Ian.
The Sheriff’s Office is preparing a claim to FEMA for reimbursement of force account and other Hurricane Ian
related cost. When FEMA reimbursement is made to the CCSO those funds will be returned to the Collier County
Board of County Commissioners.
FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment from General Fund (001) reserves transferring funding to the Sheriff's
Office General Fund (010) in the amount of $2,400,000 is required.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT: None.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal issues and
requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners authorize execution of the budget amendment
to increase current funding for the Collier County Sheriff’s General Fund (Law Enforcement) in the amount of
$2.4M in order to cover Overtime, the benefits on Overtime, and operating expenses related to Hurricane Ian.
