(All Districts) (Commissioner McDaniel’s Request) Notes: TIME CERTAIN ITEMS: Item 11I to be heard at 11AM: Recommendation to approve a Collier County Tourist Development Council (TDC) Category “B” Promotion Funds Grant Application for the U.S. Open Pickleball Championship for Fiscal Year 2023 11/14/2022 12:05 PM P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, The Tzu Chi Foundation is an international humanitarian organization which has been devoted to spreading the Great Love of Buddhism through its work in the fields of charity, medicine, education, and culture; and WHEREAS, The Tzu Chi Foundation is volunteer-based and headquartered in Hualien, Taiwan and funded through donations from the public since its founding by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in 1966; and, WHEREAS, With 65 Tzu Chi Foundation volunteers, as well as 15 volunteers from the Pickleball For All group and 34 from the Freedom Waters Foundation, the Tzu Chi Foundation held a day-long event at the Naples Botanical Garden’s FGCU Auditorium where they distributed $380,600 USD in aid to 425 households in need due to the severe suffering caused by Hurricane Ian in Collier County. The majority of the residents receiving aid were from the River Park area in the City of Naples and East Naples communities affected by the storm; and, WHEREAS, These relief efforts provided by the Tzu Chi Foundation serve as a way for the people of Taiwan to demonstrate their appreciation to the People and Government of the United States of America for the support they provide to Taiwan during her time of need; and, WHEREAS, Recognizing the efforts of the Tzu Chi Foundation to help the citizens of Collier County recover from the suffering caused by Hurricane Ian with our admiration and appreciation for their steadfast friendship in the face of disaster. NOW THEREFORE, The Tzu Chi Foundation from Florida continue their efforts to help our suffering residents in Collier County, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that November 8, 2022 be designated as TZU CHI FOUNDATION DAY IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 8th Day of November 2022.
