Agenda 10/25/2022 Item #16D 6 (To support economic development efforts in the field of agriculture in Collier County)10/25/2022 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to promote economic development in local agriculture via a $7,000 sponsorship of the Collier County Farm Bureau 2022 Hometown Rodeo event organized by the Collier County Farm Bureau. (Economic Development Fund 007) OBJECTIVE: To support economic development efforts in the field of agriculture in Collier County. CONSIDERATIONS: The County has been contacted by the Collier County Farm Bureau to request a $7,000 sponsorship for the upcoming Collier County Farm Bureau 2022 Hometown Rodeo event being held at the Collier County Fairgrounds on November 11th and 12th, 2022. This event is intended to promote local agriculture and generate revenue to be distributed as micro-grants to teachers who include Florida agricultural literacy programs, and Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame scholarships to high school graduates aspiring to agricultural academic programs, among other endeavors. Additionally, support of this event will help to foster local business and community engagement in the agriculture industry through education and interpretive programming. The Collier County Board of County Commissioners (Board) previously provided a $10,000 sponsorship to Collier County Farm Bureau for the Southwest Florida Agricultural Festival & Rodeo. The sponsorship was approved on April 12, 2022, as Agenda Item #16F3. The event was held on April 29 th and 30th, 2022 at the Collier County Fairgrounds; with the purpose of promoting local agriculture and generating revenue to be distributed as micro - grants to teachers who include Florida agricultural literacy programs, and scholarships to high school graduates aspiring to agricultural academic programs. The County receives regular gaming receipt revenue from the State of Florida pursuant to the agre ement between the State and the Seminole Tribe. Fiscal Year 2012 was the first year of the distribution of proceeds. The mission of these funds is to be an effective force in improving the quality of life for all people in Collier County by promoting economic development initiatives that will diversify the economy, create high value -added jobs, increase the average wage, facilitate capital formation, preserve and enhance the natural environment and enable all county residents to have a meaningful opportunity for upward mobility. Since 2012, these funds have supported several accelerator programs including the ongoing support of the Immokalee Culinary Accelerator. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding in the amount of $7,000 is available within Economic Development Fund (007), project 33388. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management impact associated with this action. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to form and legality and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK RECOMMENDATION: To approve and authorize a $7,000 sponsorship of the Collier County Farm Bureau 2022 Hometown Rodeo event organized by the Collier County Farm Bureau to promote economic development.
