PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, "Careers in Construction" is an annual, month-long initiative to help increase
public and student awareness of construction-related professions; and
WHEREAS, the Collier Building Industry Foundation (CBIF), the philanthropic arm of the
Collier Building Industry Association (CBIA) in collaboration with the Collier
County Public Schools (CCPS), will work together throughout the 2022-2023
school year to introduce CCPS students through hands-on activities to the
vast employment opportunities in the construction-related fields; and
WHEREAS, the construction industry is one of our nation's largest industries, employing
more than five million individuals in the U.S. and one of the four highest
employment sectors represented in Collier County; and
WHEREAS, CBIF and CCPS are pleased to partner in providing high school students an
enhanced awareness and understanding of construction-related fields
through a county-wide career fair and a "shadowing day." These activities
provide students the opportunity to meet with construction professionals,
discuss careers in the field, and have exposure to on-the-job learning
through job site visits; and
WHEREAS, our goals are to effectively address some of the issues that have contributed
to chronic labor shortages and misperceptions of careers in construction,
expand networking contacts for potential summer employment and/or
internships, and assist in developing a skilled workforce for the future; and
WHEREAS, these initiatives will enrich students' educational experience by offering
them first-hand exposure to the real-world careers, skill requirements, and
opportunities associated with the building industry right here in Collier
County;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that October 2022 be designated as
"CAREERS IN CONSTRUCTION" MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
