EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Provide an update to the Board of County Commissioners regarding the recommendation to
designate a Sports Tourism Director within the Convention & Visitors Bureau (Tourism Division)
that shall provide dedicated oversight of the County's interests relating to the Paradise Coast
Sports Complex as it relates to the day-to-day activities, sales efforts, sports marketing,
management and administration of the County's relationship with Sports Facilities Companies
(Complex management company) and the promotion of tourism.
OBJECTIVE: Provide an update to the Board on Staff recommendation to create the Sports Tourism
Director position to provide County leadership and dedicated oversight and management on behalf of the
County's interest at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Paradise Coast Sports Complex was established with the goal of creating a
facility capable of attracting sports tourism events and the associated incremental overnight visitation and
direct tourist development tax (TDT) collections such events can generate. To date, the activities taking
place at the facility as well as the management of the day-to-day relationship with the management
vendor (currently Sports Facilities Companies) has been the direct responsibility of the County Manager's
Office. The intent of the Sports Tourism Director would provide leadership oversight and guidance on
behalf of the County Manager's Office and the interest of the County as a whole to ensure efficient
oversight of sales, marketing, and operations, and the promotion of tourism, relating to the Paradise Coast
Sports Complex. This individual shall also provide day-to-day guidance and oversight on behalf of the
County with the facility management company (Sports Facilities Companies). The role shall be a
seamless conduit within the Tourism Division providing strategic input and direction relating to visitation
needs, seasonal compression, events marketing, and liaison across the destination with local businesses
including hotels, restaurants, transportation, and attractions. The Tourism Division believes that it is in
the best interest of Collier County in order to ensure seamless and strategic attraction of sports and events
to the Paradise Coast Sports Complex.
FISCAL IMPACT: The annual salary of $80,700 - $130,700 will be part of the Tourism Division's
staffing model (Promotion Admin 194). Further analysis will be conducted to determine what percent of
concentration shall be covered by County staff general funding resources (Fund 001).
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact to the Growth Management Plan with this
