Backup Document 06/28/2022 Item # 4A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Nancy Payton spent nearly 30 years as an Environmental Policy Advocate with the Florida Wildlife Federation and was recognized as one of the primary faces of the Collier County environmental movement; and WHEREAS, Ms. Payton built bridges rather than walls, successfully forging productive relationships and alliances with the entire environmental community; and WHEREAS, Ms. Payton worked cooperatively and in collaboration with Collier County Government to guide policy efforts to protect listed species and to bring balance to proposed growth in Collier County's rural fringe and eastern lands in regard to water flows and habitat for endangered species; and WHEREAS, with her spirit of partnership and innovative problem-solving, Ms. Payton generated voter support in 2002 to begin the Conservation Collier Program, enabling the county to buy and manage more than 4,300 acres of environmentally sensitive lands in 21 locations; and WHEREAS, to recognize Ms. Payton's advocacy and dedication to protecting the environment of Collier County and Southwest Florida, a Conservation Collier property was named the Nancy Payton Preserve, and upon her retirement July 10, 2018, was proclaimed as Nancy Payton Day; and WHEREAS, as the community mourns her passing, the Board of County Commissioners wishes to honor and remember her contributions to Collier County; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that July 10, 2022, once again be proclaimed NANCY PAYTON DAY IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 28TH Day of June 2022.
