Agenda 06/28/2022 Item #16J 2 (BA Increasing current funding for mid-year Pay Plan update)06/28/2022 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to authorize necessary budget amendments to increase current funding for the Collier County Sheriff’s General Fund (Court, Law Enforcement, and Corrections) in the amount of $4 million in order to cover salaries and benefits related to a mid-year Pay Plan update. _____________________________________________________________________________________ OBJECTIVE: To increase the current budget in the amount of $4M for the Sheriff’s General Fund. CONSIDERATION: Due to the current economic impact of the sharply escalating costs of living in Collier County and to remain competitive for recruitment and retention, it is imperative that the Collier County Sheriff’s Office requests an immediate increase on the current budget for Sheriff’s General Fund in order to cover increased salaries and benefits related to a mid-year Pay Plan update. Like the County, the CCSO’s philosophy is to provide a market-based compensation program that meets the following goals: • Facilitates the hiring and retention of the most knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced employees available. • Supports continuous training, professional development, and enhanced career mobility. • Establish equitability in position pay ranges and to rates paid incumbents in those positions. • Recognizes and rewards individual and team achievements. This funding will allow the CCSO to make a mid-year pay plan update to advance the above-stated goals, rewarding existing employees and allowing the CCSO to stay competitive in attracting and retaining skilled talent. FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment in the amount of $4M is needed from County General Fund (001) reserves. GROWTH MANAGEMENT: None. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal issues and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners authorizes necessary budget amendments from the County General Fund (001) to increase current funding for the Collier County Sheriff’s General Fund to cover salaries and benefits related to a mid-year Pay Plan update.
