Agenda 06/28/2022 Item #10F (Foregoing the Boards Summer Break)06/28/2022
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation that the Board forego the traditional summer break and continue to meet
twice per month in an effort to address a backlog of land use and fiscal issues, and to better
accommodate the needs of the community.
OBJECTIVE: That the Board forego the traditional summer break and continue to meet twice
per month to address a backlog of land use and fiscal issues.
CONSIDERATIONS: Advisory boards have been having a difficult time attaining a
quorum. I expect that this will be especially true for land use matters and budget issues, the
approval of which are vital to our community.
Given this backlog, and our recent hiring of a new County Manager, it is my belief that the
residents of Collier County would be best served if this Board foregoes its customary summer
break to address these issues. If needed, a second meeting in November could be added as well
if the backlog has not been adequately addressed by the start of the holiday season. As long as
an in-person quorum is confirmed, commissioners who have made preexisting commitments
could solicit Board approval to attend these extra meetings remotely.
Therefore, I propose we continue our schedule of two meetings per month until such time as it is
no longer necessary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises
no legal issues and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
FISCAL IMPACT: This action will have no fiscal impact to the County.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated
with this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board forego the traditional summer break and continue
to meet twice per month to address a backlog of land use and fiscal issues.
