Agenda 06/14/2022 Item # 3D1 (Recognizing John Hood - May employee of the month)06/14/2022 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to recognize Jon Hood, in the Wastewater Division, as the May 2022 Employee of the Month. OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of an employee who has made significant contributions to the organization and our community CONSIDERATIONS: Jon Hood is an Odor Control Specialist in the Wastewater Division and has been employed with the County since January 2017. As part of his regular duties, Jon is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the odor control system in Collier County. Up until recently, he was only one of two specialists tasked with addressing wastewater odor mitigation and management across the entire Water-Sewer District. Since coming on- board, Jon has made great use of his fabrication and project management skills to the benefit of residents and visitors alike. A great example of this was a custom-made odor control system that Jon designed, assembled, and installed. Jon’s work on this project saved the district thousands of dollars and provided a product that greatly minimized visual impacts at the site. Residents in the area were quick to notice the improvements and commented that odors at the site were greatly reduced. In another area of the County, Jon identified that an existing system was no longer able to address hydrogen sulfide levels. He coordinated an upgrade by repurposing existing equipment and leveraging the vast resources and skill sets present within the Wastewater Division. This effort again saved thousands of dollars and, more importantly, reduced the impacts of odors on those nearby. While maintaining the system is part of the job, Jon’s design and fabrication work truly exceed expectations. These are just a couple examples of his proactive odor control and reduction efforts, with more system upgrades to come. Jon’s commitment is reinforced through well-established community relationships, positive customer feedback, and the consistently high-level of service provided to all his customers. For these reasons, Jon was selected as the May 2022 Employee of the Month FISCAL IMPACT: The selected “Employee of the Month” receives a $150.00 cash award. Funds for this are available in the employee’s budget cost center. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with this Executive Summary.
