PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, National Nurses Week is designated May 6 through May 12, 2022; and
WHEREAS, the 2022 theme of National Nurses Week is "Nurses-A-Voice to Lead and Invest in Nursing
and Respect Rights to Secure Global Health": and
WHEREAS, Sampson's International Nursing Society, Inc. is dedicated to helping local, state, and
international student nurses to alleviate the nursing shortage; and
WHEREAS, members of Sampson's International Nursing Society, Inc., will begin National Nurses Week
with a memorial service for nurses who died during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by a
fund-raising walk to take place at Collier County Freedom Park. Local nursing school students
and staff members from Vitas Hospice and Avow Hospice are also participating in the walk
to commemorate fellow nurses' lives; and
WHEREAS, funds raised from the registration fees for the walk will be used to help pay for nursing
boards, help fund the shortage of nurses and many other vital nursing shortage needs; and
WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been revealed there was a need for more nursing
faculty (National League for Nursing 2020); and
WHEREAS, 1.1 million nurses are needed in 2022 to address the current nursing shortage (American
Nurses Association, n.d.); and
WHEREAS, 41 percent of nurses reported high exposure to COVID 19 (Mental Health America, 2021);
and
WHEREAS, a recent study showed that nurses suffered the highest deaths among U.S. healthcare
workers during COVID-19 (The Guardian, April 2021); and
WHEREAS, the nursing shortage is also attributed to the increased age of nurses and caused retirement
of nurses; (2020 National Nursing Workforce Survey); and
WHEREAS, Sampson's International Nursing Society', Inc.is dedicated to providing resources so today's
student nurses will be tomorrow's licensed nurses;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that
May 6 - 12, 2022, be designated as
NATIONAL NURSES WEEK
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 10th Day of May 2022.
