Agenda 04/12/2022 Item #10A (Staff Direction Regarding County Manager Recruitment Process)04/12/2022 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to provide additional staff direction regarding the County Manager recruitment process. OBJECTIVE: To review the progress made since March 8, 2022 to recruit candidates interested in the County Manager position and review steps and the timeline to hire for the position. CONSIDERATIONS: During the January 25, 2022, February 8, 2022, and March 8, 2022 BCC meetings, the Commissioners provided direction to staff on actions to be taken in order to recruit candidates for the position of County Manager. The position was posted from February 25, 2022 through March 31, 2022, with a total of forty (40) interested individuals submitting cover letters and resumés to the County. Each Commissioner received from Human Resources applica nt cover letters and resumes by PDF document electronically on March 10th, March 28th and April 1st. It is anticipated that Commissioners will complete their evaluation of the candidate submissions and provide a ranked list to Human Resources by noon on April 11, 2022, to be discussed at the April 12, 2022 BCC meeting. Based on the Board’s desire to have the next County Manager hired by June 2022, the following are suggested next steps and a timeline for the selection process: • The Board selects candidates at the April 12, 2022 meeting to be invited for personal interviews with each Commissioner. • Each Commissioner conduct personal candidate interviews between April 14, 2022 and April 25, 2022. • The Board collectively determines candidate finalists at th e April 26, 2022 BCC Meeting. • Establish whether finalists for the County Manager position will give a presentation regarding their candidacy to the Board at the May 10, 2022 or May 24, 2022 BCC meeting. FISCAL IMPACT: None. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: This action will result in no growth management impact. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal issues and requires majority vote for Board action. -JAK RECOMMENDATION: That the Board review and discuss the progress, timeline, selection process and approach for hiring of the next County Manager.
