K.4 10/26/2021 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to appoint three members to the Black Affairs Advisory Board. OBJECTIVE: To appoint three members to the Black Affairs Advisory Board, to four-year terms expiring on June 25, 2025. CONSIDERATIONS: This nine -member board was created in 1991 to identify and evaluate problems unique to the black community, review and recommend ways to ensure open communication between minorities and Collier County government, and provide periodic reports to the Board of County Commissioners. Terms are four years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup. There are currently three vacancies on this advisory board. One of my first jobs was to create and implement and afterschool program in the River Park Community. For a short while I also served on the Black Affairs Advisory Board prior to leaving my employment in 2004.1 also worked at the regional level with the Southwest Florida Workforce Development Board from 1997-2004 to implementl campaign that supported a wholistic approach to working with disadvantaged youth and communiti o identify needs and make those communities stronger. For two years, I was the Director of Trainin or a workforce development organization in New York City. This agency served the five boroughs with transitional work initiatives, job training, certification programs and other support services for a divers population. Currently I am the Executive Director for a local nonprofit. However, I will be leaving thi position to go back to training for another nonprofit. My nonprofit career has provided me th opportunity to work within healthcare, education, and human services to assist in providing access to services, resources and support. I am also currently an adjunct professor at Florida Gulf Coa University. In addition, I serve on the board of my church. My congregation has a social justicel committee, works very closely with NAACP and other local groups that bring issues to the forefront t identify challenges and work toward solutions.
