To achieve those priorities, he looked at repurposing the lanes. As Mr. Trebilcock noted that as new developments are planned for the corridor, they are required to install a left turn lane into the new development which would end up reducing the amount of existing medians and landscaping. Mr. Trebilcock met with County staff to review the current and future roadway designs. Bayshore Drive is classified as a Collector Road; currently the road doesn't meet the County standards with the lane widths. The County transportation staff recommends at least 11ft wide lanes and would prefer 12 ft. Instead, his concept is to reduce the lanes to one in each direction and install roundabouts at key intersections. These improvements will slow down traffic, widen the sidewalks and bike lanes meeting the priorities of the community. Mr. Trebilcock provided another option that displays turn lanes, keeping all 4 lanes all the way down to Thomasson Drive which would create a more of a thoroughfare for vehicles to be able to travel at a higher rate of speed with no traffic calming measures. Installing roundabouts in different locations on Bayshore would allow the medians with landscaping, wider sidewalks for pedestrian and bicycle safety• and install traffic calming measures to slow traffic. This will also accommodate new and existing businesses with the required entrance and exits onto the road. Mike Sherman noted this was a complex issue, the traffic experts say it feasible. It is a great vision and if it isn't implemented now it won't happen; he also commented on the difficulty with all the left-turn lanes from the side streets. The option with roundabouts would increase the safety of pedestrian and bicycle and supports slowing down the traffic because the traffic now is speeding and when there are new businesses it would be even worse. Camille Kielty asked if 6 roundabouts would eliminate left hand turns for example, Shoreview Drive will have a right turn only to get into the roundabout to make a u-turn instead. Mr. Trebilcock replied yes, most of the side streets would have the right turn out of the street and use the roundabout to turn themselves out the opposite direction. Ms. Kielty asked how much would this cost and how long would this take? Mr. Trebilcock no costs or timeframes developed yet, the first step is to get Board feedback and support to move to the next phase. Steve Main expressed his concerns about going down to 2 lanes and said he would not support a 2-lane road. He wants to leave the bike lanes and says the area needs the bike lanes. He had a lot of concerns about this concept and would need additional time to review the options. Al Schantzen mentioned Mr. Mcgee study of installing a roundabout on the north end by Gulf Gate Plaza and would not oppose trying it on the north end as a test to try out. Maurice Gutierrez mentioned the similarity of Pelican Bay with Bayshore area and asked if the number of occupants is taken into consideration on determining how many vehicles will be impacting these changes. Mr. Trebilcock does take into account all those factors along with human behavior to the best of their ability, even as tricky as it is it is all taken into account for the road improvements. Ms. Kielty asked if they had a 3rd option to look at to be able to slow down the traffic keep the 4 5.A.3 Packet Pg. 53 Attachment: Bayshore Gateway Triangle CRA Meeting Minutes - January 11, 2021 (15200 : Bayshore/Gateway Triangle CRA Advisory Board - 5.A.3Packet Pg. 54Attachment: Bayshore Gateway Triangle CRA Meeting Minutes - January 11, 2021 (15200 : Bayshore/Gateway Triangle CRA Advisory Board - 5.A.3Packet Pg. 55Attachment: Bayshore Gateway Triangle CRA Meeting Minutes - January 11, 2021 (15200 : Bayshore/Gateway Triangle CRA Advisory Board - 5.A.3Packet Pg. 56Attachment: Bayshore Gateway Triangle CRA Meeting Minutes - January 11, 2021 (15200 : Bayshore/Gateway Triangle CRA Advisory Board - 5.A.3Packet Pg. 57Attachment: Bayshore Gateway Triangle CRA Meeting Minutes - January 11, 2021 (15200 : Bayshore/Gateway Triangle CRA Advisory Board -
