Agenda 03/09/2021 Item #10A (Board schedule/foregoing summer break)10.A
03/09/2021
Recommendation that the Board adjusts its current schedule and foregoes the summer break in
2021 to better accommodate the needs of the community.
OBJECTIVE: That the Board hold regular meetings during the upcoming summer months.
CONSIDERATIONS: Like all local governments throughout this nation, the current pandemic has
wrought havoc not only on our local business, but County business as well. Our advisory boards have
been having a difficult time attaining a quorum. I expect that this will be especially true for land use
matters, and budget issues, the approval of which are vital to our community.
Given the backlog of items, and our upcoming hiring of a new County Manager, it is my belief that the
residents of Collier County would be best served if this Board foregoes its customary summer break and a
second meeting in November could be added as well. Commissioners who have made preexisting
commitments can attend those meetings remotely.
Therefore, I propose we continue our regular schedule of 2 meetings per month until such time as it is no
longer requisite.
FISCAL. IMPACT: This action will have no fiscal impact to the County.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority vote
for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION. That the Board adjusts its current schedule and instead conducts regular
meetings during the summer.
