Agenda 01/26/2021 Item #16F 2 (Supervisor of the Year - Brittney Mahon)01/26/2021
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Brittney Mahon, Human Resources Manager, Administrative
Services Department as the 2020 Supervisor of the Year.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of a supervisor who has made significant
contributions to the organization or to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: As part of the County’s formal recognition program, each year the Human
Resources Division solicits nominations from staff to highlight the accomplishments of one of special
supervisor who exemplifies the characteristics of great leadership in either one special project or
continually throughout the year. This year, 16 nominees were considered by the Employee of the Month
Committee and voted upon by a team of Division Directors. Brittney Mahon, ASD, Human Resources
Manager, Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards, has been with the County since 2007 and has been
selected as the Supervisor of the Year for 2020.
Brittney’s responsibilities include oversight for recruitment, compensation, recognition and retirement
initiatives for the entire agency; functions that during the COVID pandemic of 2020 resulted in
significant process changes within the County. Brittney and her team worked with each department and
division within the County to support their individual hiring requirements while ensuring an effective,
cohesive County-wide recruitment strategy. She is a consummate professional who excels at thinking on
her feet. Brittney has transformed the County’s Talent Acquisition function with a focus on metrics,
streamlining processes and leveraging available technology to enhance internal and external customer
service and the candidate experience. She set up digital interview notes storage through SIRE, which
helped cut down on expenditures of archiving the records off-site, and provides easier and quicker access
to interview records, helping the County stay in compliance with record retention requirements.
Another initiative that improved recruitment was the piloting of the NeoGov On -Boarding module.
Around the initial on-set of the pandemic in March 2020, an opportunity came up to utilize a new module
of the County's applicant tracking software (ATS) for on-boarding. Through this web-based platform,
applicants complete required County new hire documentation from home rather than making a trip to the
Human Resources office. This enhancement was available at no cost to the County and Brittney jumped
on the chance to leverage the technology. She worked with the HR Applications Analyst, Parks &
Recreation Division recruiter and our ATS representative to build the module for immediate use, allowing
for remote processing of dozens of Parks summer camp hires to have them ready in time for the start of
the programs. The trial of OnBoard was so successful that Brittney advocated to move forward with the
platform agency-wide in 2021, with the confidence that it fits business needs, provides modernized
technology for applicants, and frees up staff time.
Brittney values open communication with her team. She is straightforward and transparent, keeping them
informed on everything going on within their Division. She leads by example through her commitment to
County and Division policy, applying it in an impartial and consistent manner. One of Brittney’s best
leadership qualities is the support and encouragement of her team’s professional development. She
understands the value of professional certifications and associations, while encouraging her team to find
learning opportunities, both for the benefit of the County but also for their personal and career growth.
Brittney leads her team with a calm, competent, steady hand while maintaining her sense of humor. She
has an uncanny ability to see the big picture and how all their many projects benefit the organization.
Through Brittney’s leadership, she has built a strong, successful team that thrives on mutual respect,
consistency and accountability. She embodies the County’s motto of exceeding expectations every day
