EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept an award of $63,731 in grant funds from the State of Florida
Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services for expanded training and medical
equipment, and to approve necessary Budget Amendments.
OBJECTIVE: To expand and improve pre -hospital emergency medical services utilizing State grant
funds.
CONSIDERATIONS: On September 8, 2020, the Board of County Commissioners approved the
submittal of a grant application to the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency
Medical Services in the amount of $63,731 for expanded training and equipment for emergency medical
services. A grant award notice was received on October 9, 2020 from the State of Florida. There is no
formal agreement requiring Board signature.
The purpose of the grant is to improve operational efficiency and increase the safety of patients and field
personnel. There is no formal agreement for the acceptance of this grant. The previously signed
application affirms compliance with the terms and conditions of the grant.
FISCAL IMPACT: Qualified purchases will be fully funded by the State of Florida Emergency Medical
Services Grant Award Program. A Budget Amendment is necessary to appropriate the grant award of
$63,731.00 within EMS Grant (493), Project 33655-03.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management impact.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to
form and legality, and requires a majority vote for Board approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: To accept the award and authorize the Budget Amendment in the amount of
$63,731.00 to appropriate the grant funds.

I am pleased to award the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) County Grant, ID Code C9O11 in the
amount of $63,731.00 to Collier County. The purpose of this grant is to improve and expand pre -
hospital EMS. Section 401.113(2) (a), Florida Statutes, authorizes and requires this grant program,
which is Number 64.005 in the Florida Catalog of State Financial Assistance. The money is state funds
from the Department of Health's EMS Trust Fund, and there are no federal funds involved.
Your funds for the stated amount will be sent in full, in advance, within approximately 30 days. The
grant begins the date of this letter and ends September 17, 2021. Please note that the county must
report to the state its grant activities and purchases by the following dates: January 11, 2021, May 28,
2021, and October 8, 2021, the final report. Your signed grant application affirms you have read,
understand, and will comply with the conditions and requirements in the "Florida EMS County Grant
Program Application Packet, December 2008."
