16.H.6
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a Resolution supporting the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission Aquatic Plant Management Program.
OBJECTIVE: To support the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's efforts to develop
and encourage new technologies and innovative solutions that may reduce chemical spraying of Florida's
waterways.
CONSIDERATIONS: Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission ("FWC") is empowered to direct
the control, eradication, and regulation of noxious aquatic weeds, and also to promote, develop, and
support research activities directed toward the most effective and efficient control of aquatic plants.
FWC's Aquatic Plant Management Program designs, funds, coordinates, and contracts invasive nonnative
aquatic plant control efforts in Florida's 1.25 million acres of public waters. Invasive aquatic vegetation
has traditionally been managed largely by chemical spraying, but FWC is interested in developing
innovative solutions which minimize the use of chemical spraying to control the proliferation of invasive
vegetation in Florida's waterways. The proposed Resolution conveys Collier County's support of
FWC's efforts.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: The County Attorney has reviewed this item and approved it as to form
and legality. Majority support of the Board is required for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: To approve the attached Resolution supporting the Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission's efforts to develop and encourage new technologies and innovative solutions
that may reduce chemical spraying of Florida's waterways.
