EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to authorize a Budget Amendment for the Facilities Management Division in the
amount of $200,000 to redistribute existing Division funds to focus on HVAC projects.
OBJECTIVE: To provide safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities and maintain an acceptable level of
service for the organization through the year end, September 30, 2020 through authorization of necessary
budget amendment to redistribute funds within the Facilities Management Division in the amount of
$200,000 to allow Facilities Management Division to focus on HVAC building related expenditures the
rest of the fiscal year.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Division of Facilities Management is responsible for the maintenance,
repair, Capital replacement, and construction of County-owned buildings and facilities. This fiscal year
has seen a large increase in demand for facilities maintenance work and services. The division has
completed many beach facility refurbishments including, but not limited to; Barefoot Beach Par k,
Vanderbilt Beach Park, Tiger Tail Beach Park, South Beach Park and Clam Pass Park to name just a few.
Additionally, many buildings including the County Jail, Buildings F Administration, Building H Health
Building, and the Courthouse has seen plumbing repairs, upgrades and lighting retrofits creating
additional expenses for the division. These repairs and rehabilitations are forecasted to continue over the
summer along with general on demand maintenance requests and require additional funding in our
operating budget. During this fiscal, year the Facilities Management Division has received over 18,320
requests for service and is currently working on a backlog of 1,053 work requests to be addressed over the
summer.
Staff is recommending redirecting $200,000 within County-Wide Capital Fund (301) from the
Government Building Project (52506) to New Air Conditioners Project (52162) for the replacement of
HVAC equipment County-wide.
FISCAL IMPACT: A Budget Amendments in the amount of $200,000 is necessary to reallocate funds
in County Wide Capital Fund (301) from the Government Building Project (52506) to New Air
Conditioners Project (52162).
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal
issues, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners authorize a Budget Amendment for
the Facilities Management Division in the amount of $200,000 to fund HVAC costs associated with
replacement of HVAC equipment County-wide.
