EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to authorize a Budget Amendment for the Parks and Recreation Division in the
amount of $300,000 within Parks Capital Improvement Fund (306) to cover necessary COVID-19
increased cleaning and sanitizing of beach park and community center locations.
OBJECTIVE: To provide the necessary funding to the Parks and Recreation Division to continue to
support increased COVID-19 cleaning and sanitizing of beach park and community center locations.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Parks and Recreation Division manages and supports seventy-seven (77)
park facilities and twenty (20) Conservation Collier Preserves totaling 6,489 acres. Parks and Recreation
is also responsible for and operates Tigertail Beach Park, South Marco Beach Access, Otter Mound
Preserve, and the Caxambas Boat Park on Marco Island and Freedom Park, Gordon River Greenway
Park, Clam Pass Beach Park, and Seagate Beach Access within the City of Naples.
Funds are needed to purchase additional supplies for personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff,
cleaning and sanitizing in order to provide disinfection practices of community centers, playground
equipment, restrooms, benches, water-fountains, beach access associated showers, and amenities
throughout the Collier County Parks and Recreation Division.
Contracted cleaning and existing parks staff will be responsible for the increased cleaning. It is
anticipated that this funding will provide for materials/services needed through September 30, 2020.
FISCAL IMPACT: Budget Amendment in the amount of $300,000 is needed from the Hurricane Irma
(50154) project to the COVID-19 (50199) project within the Parks Capital Improvement Fund (306).
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management impact associated with this
Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This Item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal
issues, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: To authorize a Budget Amendment for the Parks and Recreation Division in
the amount of $300,000 to cover necessary increased COVID-19 cleaning and sanitizing activities.
