TDC Minutes 10/09/2006 R October 9,2006 MINUTES OF THE COLLIER COUNTY TOURIST DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL SUB-COMMITTEE Naples, Florida, October 9, 2006 LET IT BE REMEMBERED, that the Collier County Tourist Development Council Sub-Committee in and for the County of Collier, having conducted business herein, met on this date at 2:00 p.m. at 3050 North Horseshoe Drive, Suite 218, Naples, Florida, with the following members present: Committee: Clark Hill Rick Medwedeff Ed (Ski) Olesky (absent) ALSO PRESENT: Jack Wert, Tourism Director Maggie McCarty, Film Coordinator JoN ell Modys, P.R. Media b. PR c. Sales & Marketing V DISCUSSION OF PROMOTING TOURISM DURING HIGH SEASON VI REPORT FORMAT TO TDC ON OCTOBER 23 October 9,2006 I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Jack Wert at 2:10 p.m. II. WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS III. REVIEW OF AGENDA TOPICS Mr. Wert reviewed the agenda topics explaining the reason for the meeting as the notable drop in tourism numbers for this past season. IV. DISCUSSION OF FY 07 MARKETING PLAN a. Media Mr. Wert displayed graphs on Room Revenue, Occupancy, Average Daily Rates, Number of Visitors, and Visitor Origin (see attachment) which demonstrated the summer season numbers up while season was down. It was also noted that airfare rates were up, there were large layoffs up north, and there was a warm winter while the previous year had a large amount of snow fall. It was also noted by Mr. Barrett that 5th Avenue Restaurants showed a decline over the summer months. Mr. Hill added that for the past few months there has been rate competition amongst the Hotels. Mr. Wert reviewed and distributed the document "Collier County CVB 2007 Media Recommendations, October 2,2006" (see attachment). Rick Medwedeff joined the meeting at 2:40 p.m. Mr. Wert brought out that the charge of the Tourist Development Council is to have the advertising emphasis for the off season. b. PR JoNell Modys reviewed and distributed a power point presentation (see attachment) mentioning the great publicity coming in at the right time this year. She would like to hire a Travel Agency in order to forward the progress. Mr. Medwedeffwho is from the Marriott showed growth but most of the growth was due to groups or convention bookings. Leisure bookings were down. This season is showing to be even stronger than last year for the group bookings. The housing and insurance markets have been a factor in tourism. It was suggested working with realtors on marketing. 2 October 9,2006 C. Sales & Marketing Debi DeBenedetto gave a power point presentation (see attachment). Upcoming advertising focuses: Kayaking Trail Hispanic, German, French Upscale shopping Internet Marketing Weddings It was noted that inquiries for travel to Collier County is coming in from California. It was suggested to have the CVB and Chamber work together. V. DISCUSSION OF PROMOTION TORISM DURING HIGH SEASON Mr. Medwedeff feels P.R. should be emphasized. Mr. Wert suggested developing growth in the European market. He also mentioned having a partner or a representative in Washington D.C. Lower airfares were discussed. It was requested to have more information on the competitive markets in order to compare with Collier County's numbers. It was also requested to have the staff be more integrated locally for promotional efforts. VI.
