Backup Documents 04/28/2020 Item #16H3 16 H3 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the town of Ave Maria, Ave Maria University, and the Ave Maria Stewardship Community District all proudly bear the name "Ave Maria"; and WHEREAS, the Feast of the Annunciation, which normally falls on March 25th, is celebrated throughout the world to commemorate the Biblical event when the Archangel Gabriel greeted the Virgin Mary with the words "Ave Maria" meaning "Hail Mary"; and WHEREAS, on March 25, 2006, Tom Monaghan laid the cornerstone for the landmark Ave Maria Church at a ceremony in what is now the center of the town of Ave Maria, marking the beginning of the enormous efforts made by Tom Monaghan, Paul Marinelli, and Ave Maria Development to create the town of Ave Maria and Ave Maria University; and WHEREAS, the people of the town of Ave Maria and Ave Maria University celebrate the Feast of Annunciation with great fanfare and solemnity every year and claim it as their patronal feast day; and WHEREAS, March 25, 1937 is also the birthday of founder Tom Monaghan; and WHEREAS, the District desires to recognize and celebrate these important dates and events in the life and history of the Ave Maria community; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida recognizes the Resolution of the Board of Supervisors of the Ave Maria Stewardship Community District designating the Feast of the Annuciation (normally March 25th) as the town's Annual Feast Day and recognizing March 25th as the birthday of Tom Monaghan, Founder of Ave Maria town and Ave Maria University.
