Backup Documents 04/28/2020 Item #16H1 16H1 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, "National Day of Prayer" is a day set aside by Congress for all Americans to pray and reaffirm the spiritual principles on which this nation is founded; and WHEREAS, A National Day of Prayer was called for by the first Continental Congress in 1775 and called for by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863; and WHEREAS, in 1952, Congress established by National Day of Prayer as an annual event by a joint resolution, signed into law by President Harry S. Truman; and WHEREAS, in 1988 Congress and President Ronald Reagan amended the law to designate the first Thursday in May as "National Day of Prayer"; and WHEREAS, prayer has comforted us in times of sorrow and tribulation and given us strength and hope for the future. We ask God to keep His hand upon us and bless Collier County, the great State of Florida and the United States of America; and WHERAS, prayer is encouraged in this time of a worldwide pandemic affecting the lives, lifestyles, and wellbeing of millions of people; and WHEREAS, this year is the 69th anniversary of the consecutive annual observance of the National Day of Prayer and the theme, "Pray God's Glory Across the Earth", is based on Habakkuk 2:14; and WHEREAS, National Day of Prayer gives us an opportunity as a community to pray for our community, our nation, and our world; and WHEREAS, People are encouraged to recognize the day, reflect and pray during this National Day of Prayer on May 7, 2020 in Collier County; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that May 7, 2020, be designated as NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 2e Day of April 2020.
