Backup Documents 12/10/2019 Item #11A - Complete Count Options2020 Census Complete Count Options INFORMATION GATHERING RECAP… •Staff scoured the websites for the other 66 Florida counties… •Staff requested a survey be dispatched by the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) to County Managers/Administrators and County Attorneys on creation of Complete Count Committees (CCC) and the application of Florida Government in the Sunshine Law… •Staff received an invitation from Collier County Public Schools to provide a County representative to their 2020 Census Workgroup for their first meeting on Thursday, October 10… THREE APPROACHES TO INCREASE CENSUS AWARENESS: •PRIVATE SECTOR OPTION –CCC is not created by a BCC. The BCC does not hear recommendations from the CCC. BCC members are free to create or participate on the CCC outside of the County confines. (Selected during September 24 BCC meeting.) •COMPLETE COUNT COORDINATOR OPTION (STAFF) –The BCC instructs the County Manager/Administrator to increase awareness and participation in the 2020 Census via applicable County staff, functions, resources, and programs. •BCC-CREATED OPTION –The BCC creates the CCC. The BCC hears recommendations from the CCC. BCC members may participate and chair the CCC. Alachua, Gilchrist, Monroe, and Wakulla counties have an appointed Complete Count Coordinator and/or are implementing staff-driven promotional campaigns and outreach. Complete Count Coordinator Outreach Efforts Social media campaign Advertise Census information on County website Partner with local non-English speaking media Post Census information in County facilities (parks, libraries, buses etc.) targeting non-English speaking residents Continue outreach efforts with local civic leaders, churches, HOA’s and other entities in unincorporated Collier County Include other County departments already working with the community and use existing data and resources (Human Services, Veterans Services, Senior Services, etc.) Work with Census Partnership Specialist and other entities to hold community Census workshops
