EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept the donation of a Cummins Generator to be installed at the Florida
Culinary Accelerator at Immokalee.
OBJECTIVE: To enhance the Florida Culinary Accelerator at Immokalee, currently without backup
generator support in the event of loss of power to the facility, and provide assistance when feasible
during times of local emergency or disaster
CONSIDERATIONS: On November 5, 2019, Frank Rincon, Representative for Benison Center in
Immokalee, FL contacted County Staff regarding the donation of a Cummins Generator to be installed
at the Florida Culinary Accelerator at Immokalee (“Culinary Accelerator”). Benison Center is a not-for-
profit organization which acts as a resource and distribution center that provides sup port to those who
need it most. The Emergency Management Department has enjoyed an excellent working relationship
with the Benison Center in joint disaster relief and recovery initiatives.
The Culinary Accelerator opened in January 2018 in Immokalee and provides a state-of-the-art, 5,274
square-foot commercial kitchen to its membership base. Adding a permanent source of backup power to
the facility will make the cooking and food processing space and cold storage available to the County
during times of local emergency or disaster.
Benison Center in Immokalee, FL would like to donate the Cummins Generator to be installed at the
Culinary Accelerator (valued at approximately $13,900) and the County would be responsible for
installing the generator and all ancillary requirements including; engineering, permitting, transportation
of the generator to the Culinary Accelerator, and installation of the automatic transfer switch and
required concrete slab.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding, not to exceed the quote of $57,515.00, for the installation of the
generator and all ancillary requirements is available in Economic Development Fund 007, with revenue
received from the local government share of gaming proceeds pursuant to the agreement between the
State of Florida and Seminole Tribe.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact on the Collier County Growth
Management Plan.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal
issues, and requires a majority vote for Board action. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Collier County Commissioners accepts the donation of a
Cummins DGDA Generator to be installed at the Culinary Accelerator.
