P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, American Education Week is a time to celebrate public education and
honor organizations that are making a difference in ensuring that every
child receives a quality education; and,
WHEREAS, Pathways Early Education Center of Immokalee was founded in 1964 as
the Immokalee Child Care Center to provide the families of Immokalee a
safe, nurturing option for childcare and is one of only fifteen nationally
accredited early learning centers in Collier County, working to make sure
all students in Immokalee are ready for kindergarten and excited for a
lifetime of learning; and,
WHEREAS, Pathways currently serves 125 students from a diverse group of
Spanish, Haitian, and Caucasian families by providing a nationally
recognized, evidence-based curriculum for every level of learning; and,
WHEREAS, Pathways is working to develop the whole child by ensuring the students
are meeting age-appropriate milestones and referring at-risk children to
partner agencies for mental health services, basic food and shelter
needs, access to healthcare services, and is committed to engaging
parents to help their children develop language and literacy skills,
empowering families to learn and grow together while supporting their
child’s advancement; and,
WHEREAS, multiple studies have proven that the long-term impacts of early
education improve the workforce, economy, and even the overall health
of a community, and the positive impacts are even more dramatic in
impoverished communities like Immokalee, where children have language
barriers and learning deficits that place them further behind their
affluent peers; and,
WHEREAS, Pathways is striving to ensure Immokalee’s 1,200 underserved children
have access to early education during the critical formative years.
