Backup Documents 10/22/2019 Item # 4D 40 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, The Holocaust Museum and Janet G. and Harvey D. Cohen Education Center teaches the lessons of the Holocaust to inspire action against bigotry, hatred and violence, and preserves the personal stories of local Southwest Florida residents who were Holocaust Survivors and Camp Liberators for future generations; and, WHEREAS, since its founding in 2001, more than 250,000 people - students, teachers and visitors from Southwest Florida, every state and more than 45 countries - have been impacted by the museum, its education programs, the Boxcar Exhibit and the various special programs offered on and offsite; and, WHEREAS, through the generosity of Janet G. Cohen and other generous supporters, the museum now has a new, permanent and larger facility in which to display its collections of important artifacts, documents, photographs about the Holocaust and World War II, which were donated by Southwest Florida Holocaust survivors, veterans, their families and other interested parties; and, WHEREAS, the museum will continue to offer age-appropriate student programming for grades K- 12 through college and university in six Southwest Florida counties; offer education workshops to Southwest Florida teachers as a Designated Site of the Florida Department of Education Commissioner's Task Force on Holocaust Education; host special temporary exhibits, and community events such as speaker and film presentations; and, WHEREAS, the Holocaust Museum and Janet G. and Harvey D. Cohen Education Center encourages all to understand the impact our choice of behavior, words and actions may have on ourselves and others; to realize that each of us can and should endeavor to make a positive difference, whatever our circumstances, in our families, schools, communities and the larger world; and, NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the Holocaust Museum and Janet G. and Harvey D. Cohen Education Center is recognized as officially open at 975 Imperial Golf Course Blvd., Naples, Florida to serve students, educators, visitors and the entire Southwest Florida community, and that November 10, 2019, be designated as Holocaust Museum and Janet G. and Harvey D. Cohen Education Center Grand Opening and Dedication Day. DONE AND ORDERED THIS 22nd Day of October 2019.
