Board of County commissioners
Honorable Mayor:
I am writing on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners to advise you of a
unanimous decision that was made at our June 23, 2006 budget workshop regarding the
County's Emergency Medical Services Department. The Board agreed that ifthe various
independent and dependent fire/rescue districts throughout the County unified into a
single system, then the County would merge its County-wide EMS system into the new
unified fire/rescue system. The Board further stated that it did not desire to exercise
jurisdiction over this new agency, nor did it desire to "parcel out" EMS among existing
districts.
I believe the Board's intention in this matter is to encourage a serious, objective,
thorough analysis of the potential benefits and disadvantages of such a merger so that an
informed decision can be made at the appropriate time. For its part, the County staff
stands ready to participate fully as this process proceeds.
Please consider this proposal in the cooperative spirit in which it is offered. As always,
the County Commission appreciates the professional and dedicated service of all the
community's public safety and emergency service providers. .
