Agenda 10/22/2019 Item #10A (Renaming Northeast Collier Recycling Drop-off Center)10/22/2019
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to officially rename the Northeast Collier Recycling Drop-Off Center at 825 39th
Avenue Northeast, as the Tim Nance Recycling Drop-Off Center.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize former County Commissioner Tim Nance for his service to District 5 and
Collier County.
CONSIDERATIONS: Tim Nance represented District 5 on the Collier County Board of County
Commissioners from 2012 through 2016 and served as its Chairman during 2015. His professional
background in agribusiness management was a perfect fit with the predominantly agricultural District 5.
Before his term on the Board of County Commissioners, Mr. Nance was active in a variety of civic and
service organizations and community charities. His communication skills and rare ability to build
consensus led to his appointment to numerous volunteer and advisory committees to Collier County local
government and the Collier County Metropolitan Planning Organization. Some of his work for the
community included:
• Golden Gate Estates Area Civic Association - Past President
• Frangipani Ag Community Civic Association - Founding President
• Golden Gate Estates Area Civic Association - Citizen of the Year Honoree
• East of CR 951 Infrastructure and Services Horizon Study Committee
• Rural Lands Stewardship 5 Year Review Committee
• Citizen's Advisory Committee to the Collier County MPO
• Collier Area Transit Review Committee
• Estates Area Community Wildfire Protection Plan Committee
Mr. Nance frequently volunteers at community events and is a dedicated advocate for many local
charities. His dedication to his constituency and Collier County deserves recognition.
The North East Recycling Drop-off Center was a pet project of Mr. Nance that included his vision to
bring environmental protection and recycling to the residents of the Golden Gate Estates area and other
communities. He is credited for spearheading the design, having formerly designed and built several
buildings of this type throughout his career. Mr. Nance provided great guidance on improved safety by
locating the public access drop-off areas away from equipment and chemical storage areas and ensured
that certain types of materials were used to preserve the metal framework within the structure.
Additionally, he had direct oversight of how loading and unloading areas were designed to ensure large
semi vehicles had ease of access and egress keeping those away from pedestrians and employees. Many
of the materials in the design were reviewed by Mr. Nance during regular monthly meetings which
resulted in cost saving measures for the County.
We believe that Mr. Nance is more that deserving of this dedication based on his years of dedication and
continued support the residents served in this area.
