P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a private, non-profit organization
comprised of more than 200,000 predominantly Black college-educated
women whose primary purpose is to provide support through established
programs in local communities throughout the world; and,
WHEREAS, founded in 1913 by 22 collegiate women at Howard University in
Washington, D. C., the sorority currently has more than 1,000
alumnae/collegiate chapters located in the United States, England, Japan,
Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Republic of
Korea; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.,
chartered October 26, 2013, by 25 members of this esteemed sisterhood
as the first African American chartered sorority in Collier County, is
committed to the development of programs based upon the organization’s
Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational
Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and
Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement, as established by
its founders more than 106 years ago; and,
WHEREAS, celebrating its sixth year, the Collier County Alumnae Chapter has
exemplified the spirit of its founders in their respective roles as
educators, advocates, leaders, and activists, both professionally and
voluntarily, and through their efforts to improve the quality of life and
overall well-being of citizens in Collier County, Florida; and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County Alumnae Chapter’s mission and programs benefit our
community through initiatives such as mentorship programs for underserved
youth, scholarship and awards programs, charitable giving at home and
abroad, health and wellness seminars, educational/political forums and
voter registration campaigns; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County wishes to congratulate members of the Collier County
Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., on its six years of
outstanding service in the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that October 26, 2019 be designated as
COLLIER COUNTY ALUMNAE CHAPTER OF
DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY DAY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 22nd Day of October 2019.
