5. Old Business
A. Historic Guide – Printing Status
Staff reported:
It has come to their attention it would be advantageous to slightly reformat the guide for a
better print quality.
Amanda Townsend, Museum Director has volunteered the Departments’ services to assist in
the endeavor which is anticipated to be a short term project, mainly to reformat the photos.
The work would be completed in-house, at no charge to the committee however they are
awaiting grant funding (which would not be available until October 1st before the employee
can be engaged to undertake the work.
Another option is to utilize a private firm for the work if funds are available, or print the guide
“as is” which would be possible, however the photos may not be of the highest quality.
There are funds that remain allocated for printing of the guide, and staff will confirm if the
work is not completed in this Fiscal Year, the funds would be rolled over and available in the
2020 budget.
The committee expressed concern the work may delay availability of the guide for the upcoming
season given it would not be completed until after October 1st and requested staff to obtain a price
quote from the printer for the re-formatting. Pending receipt of a quote, a decision could be made at
the next meeting on which avenue should be chosen to ensure the guide is printed before the
upcoming season.
Ms. Townsend arrived at 9:35 a.m. and the committee confirmed staff’s comments on the offer to assist in
reformatting the Guide.
B. Update to the Historic & Archaeological Probability Maps
Staff reported:
They received the updated documentation available in the Florida master site files.
A meeting was held with the GIS Director and staff will be updating the County’s maps.
The work is expected to be completed within one week and a draft will potentially be
provided to the committee for review at the next meeting.
6. New Business
A. Immokalee Square Phase I Resource Assessment
August 23, 2019
3
Staff provided the report “A Phase I Cultural Resource Assessment of the Immokalee Square parcel
Collier County, Florida Dated December 2018” for information purposes. They noted the
assessment was prepared by Archaeological and Historical Conservancy, Inc. and the item will be
placed on the agenda for discussion and possible action at the next meeting.
During committee discussion, the following was noted:
The feasibility of requesting additional investigation by the applicant including Phase II level
testing given there are numerous other sites north and south of the property and one high
probability site has been identified on the subject parcel.
Additional investigation is also warranted given the consultant acknowledges there is
insufficient data to determine if Site 8CR1502 meets the eligibility criteria for the National
Register of Historic Places – staff noted the Committee is charged with ensuring the
protection of cultural sites as opposed to determining if sites should be sought to be placed
on the National Register.
Staff to clarify the sites identified will be located in the preserve areas of any proposed
development and forward the PUD document to the members.
If a Member has any questions prior to the next meeting, they should contact Staff.
