EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize that there is no funding requirement for the
Inter-local Agreement for multi- county Agricultural Extension Agents and
the $30,000 allocation to fund this agreement be utilized to assist in meeting
budget reductions for the Collier County University Extension department.
OBJECTIVE: Utilize $30,000 originally allocated to fund agricultural multi-county
extension agent, to meet budget reductions for the Collier County University
Extension department.
--
CONSIDERATIONS: Collier County's University Extension Department provides
educational services to the people of the state of Florida and in particular Collier
County. The ability of the Agricultural Extension Agents to serve the needs of
commercial agriculture has diminished to the extent that there are a limited
number of agricultural extension agents with the necessary experience and
technical expertise available to serve the needs of commercial agriculture in
Hendry, Lee and Collier counties. The inter-local agreement was to make use of
agricultural multi-county agents with expenses shared by the served counties.
However the agreement has never been signed by the indicated counties and
therefore the funds allocated in FY2008 to this multi-county position are not
needed.
The University Extension Department is seeking the board's approval to utilize the
$30,000 designated to the agriculture multi-county agent shared funding be used
in offsetting the budget reductions.
FISCAL IMPACT: $30,000 will be used to offset budget reductions.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: No growth management associated with
this recommendation.
RECOMMENDATION: To recognize that there is no funding requirement for the
Inter-local Agreement for multi- county Agricultural Extension Agents and the
$30,000 allocation to fund this agreement be utilized to assist in meeting budget
reductions for the Collier County University Extension department.
