Page 1 012
Approve the necessary budget amendment from Ochopee Fire Control
District reserves in the amount of $55,000 to purchase equipment for the
purpose of bringing an existing fire truck up to full Engine specifications
and make a mid year adjustment to routine operational budget line items to
address minor safety and compliance issues as required by the National
Fire Protection Association and the Insurance Services Rating
Organization.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain Board of County Commissioner's approval for a budget
amendment in the amount of $55,000 to purchase equipment for the purpose of bringing
existing apparatus to full Engine qualifications and make a mid-year adjustment to line
items affected by compliance to National and State Standards.
.-
CONSIDERATIONS: Pumper 61, the Department's existing tanker, will receive minor
modifications to change the designation to an Engine which will allow the apparatus to
be brought up to full service so that three Engines will be interchangeable. This three
engine apparatus standardization will improve our response capability, especially in
situations where simultaneous calls are received in the vast Ochopee District and one
vehicle is out of service for repairs, etc... In order to accomplish this several purchases
are needed including but not limited to a .Jaws of Life, adapters, fittings, and nozzles
making this existing vehicle ready for full service when other apparatus are down for
service or immediate back to back calls are received. The standardization of two of the
Department's existing Engines has taken place with demonstrated success. Common
equipment includes: rescue equipment, thermal imagers, foam tanks and hose
compartment modification for safety and equipment security.
A mid year adjustment to the Ochopee Fire Control District budget is necessary to correct
serious safety deficiencies and work area environmental concerns such as; recoating base
floors for safety, replacement of old and less than reliable garage doors and openers.
Other work and line item adjustments are supported by improvements to bay lighting,
laundry facilities, flooring, painting, exterior lighting, and eliminated vermin infestation.
Scheduled replacement of day uniforms and replacement of old protective clothing that
no longer met safety requirements are part of this requested budget amendment.
FISCAL IMPACT: The purchases will total approximately $55,000 to be funded from
the Ochopee Fire Control District Reserve for Capital in Fund 146.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact
associated with this Executive Summary.
-
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approve the
necessary Budget Amendment
