Is this subject matter under litigation at this time? (;)
Is this subject matter an ongoing Code Enforcement case? ~
Note: If either ans_r is "yes". the Board will hear the item but will have no
discussion regarding the item after it is presented.
Please exolain in detail the reason vou are reauesting to speak (attach additional
Daae if necessary):
To reauest relief in the form of beina able to use second drivewav on Green Blvd.
for the followina reasons:
1. Significant safety issue with regard to fire. On at least two occasions
the fire department was able to come in the back entrance of the
properties and able to contain the fire rapidly. Please see attached
letter From Fire Chief Metzger.
2. 15111 Ave SW is impacted by the FP&L substation and the Post Office
which are on the North and South comers. Both of these facilities
generate a significant amount of commercial traffic which makes
ingress and egress onto 15111 Ave SW prohibitively difficult at times.
The ability for the majority of homes on the south side to use Green
Blvd. alleviates traffic congestion and is a benefit for all who live on
15111.
3. Entrance onto to Green Blvd is much safer due to traffic lights at both
951 and Sunshine. Vehicles on 951 are traveling at muGh higher
speeds and there is no light

4 Many of these driveways have been in use for almost 30 years. March 25, 2008

5. All of us believed that the use of the driveways predated the codes and
thus the use was "grandfathered" in.
6. Some of the driveways have been improved dramatically and would be
extremely expensive to remove
7. We purchased our properties specifically because of the ability to
enter and exit onto Green Blvd. When my teenage daughters were
learning to drive it was significantly safer for them to use Green Blvd.
vs. 951 (reasons mentioned above).
Please eXDlain in detail the action yOU are askina the Commission to take (attach
additional oaae if necessary):
We are requesting that the Commission grant us relief and allow us to legally
continue using the "second driveway" onto Green Blvd.

Re: Collier county code Enforcement, Notice of Violation
Dear Commissioners
This letter is being provided directly to Golden Gate resident Barbara Segura at her
request, in relation to a situation on her street of 15th Ave. SW.
Recently, Mrs. Segura received a notice of violation from an agent of Collier County for
using a driveway which accesses onto Green Blvd from her property. According to Ms.
Segura, approximately 15 homes on 15th Ave SW which also front onto Green Blvd. were
cited. She also indicated that the driveways have been in existence from 6 to 29 years.
In her conversation with me her primary concerns were of safety. All of these properties
are acreage of around 2.5 acres and, in most cases, wooded. The only fire hydrant on 15th
Ave SW is at the comer where it intersects with Collier Blvd which is a mile away from
the houses at the end of the street. To utilize this hydrant for fires at the east end of 15th
Ave. SW would probably entail a water shuttle operation. This can be a time-intensive
operation and can result in added minutes before an adequate water supply is provided for
fire snppression operations.
There is, however, a fire hydrant on Green and Sunshine Blvd which is available for at
least 5 to 6 homes on 15th Ave. SW, as long as there is access to the back ofthese
properties. This means that the majority of houses on the south side of 15th Ave. would be
accessible to a fire hydrant. The area reportedly has made successful use of this available
hydrant in past fires on 15th Ave. SW.
This location enjoys an enhanced water supply due to the presence of this hydrant. This
hydrant provides the Golden Gate Fire District greater options for tactical decisions
necessary in suppressing fires in this area. It allows us to shorten our initial response
times while assuring an adequate flow of water for firefighting operations at the west end
of 15th Ave. SW..
