PRESENTATION
The School Beverage Container Recycling Challenge grant, adopted by the Board of
County Commissioners on October 9,2007, helps promote a Recycling/Environment Art
Contest as one of the five elements of the competition. This State Funded grant pays for a
2009 calendar featuring the winners of the Recycling/Environment art competition, to
encourage students and staff to enhance their recycling programs.
This State grant is consistent with the guiding principles adopted by the Board of County
Commissioners on December 5, 2006: (1) Environmental and Growth Management
Compliance, (2) Airspace Preservation, (3) Operational Excellence and (4) Best Value
Service.
The Board of Collier County Commissioners is pleased to host today Keep Collier
Beautiful's unveiling of the top three 2008 recycling art contest winners by School
level:
. High School Winner: Rachel Doty, 12th Grade Palmetto Ridge High School,
Teacher Barbara Mundy.
. Middle School: Angela Vasquez, 7th Grade Manatee Middle School, Teacher
Rosalind Donovan.
. Elementary School: Tiffany Shadden, 2nd Grade Corkscrew Elementary, Teacher
Gloria Topczynski.
The students are outstanding examples of Collier County's School and County Recycling
Promotion programs.
The Recycling/Environment art winners will be featured, by 12th to 1'" grade level, on
each of the twelve months of a 2009 Calendar to showcase their art work and remind
students, faculty and the community to enhance our recycling efforts.
Therefore, the Solid Waste Management Department and the Board of County
Commissioners congratulates contest winners Rachel Doty, Angela Vasquez and
Tiffany Shadden and their teachers on winning the recycling/environment art
contest. These students' and their teachers' art creations and recycling leadership is
an inspiration to stndents, staff and our community.
