Subject: Naming of the Sheriff's Office Communications Center
Located Within the new Collier County Emergency Services Complex
Dear Sheriff Hunter:
First of all, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of retired Deputy Sheriff
William J. McNulty. He was indeed a devoted officer, and I share your view that our
community has greatly benefitted from Deputy McNulty's many contributions in the area
of communications technology,
'._-~ '
In your letter, you proposed that the Sheriff's Office Communications Center located
within the Collier County Emergency Service Center be recognized as the "William J
McNulty Communications Center." It appears that such a proposal meets requirements
set-forth in Collier County's Policy for Naming County Owned Building, Structures, or
Facility. Therefore, I will place this item on the agenda (I6-J consent) for the April 22,
2008 Board of County Commissioners meeting, with a recommendation for approval.
I would consider it an honor to receive an invitation to attend the dedication ceremony.
Sincerely,
Qs;!tf

ACTION
Dear Manager Mudd:
Earlier this year, the Collier County public safety community lost a consummate
professional in William J. McNulty. Deputy Sheriff McNulty had just retired after 31
years of service with the Collier County Sheriff's Office when he passed away on
February 10.
Bill's honorable career was focused on all aspects of emergency communications. He
was here when the first 9- 1-1 call was placed in Collier County in 1978 and he was
instrumental in the monumental task oftransitioning all of CoIlier County's public safety
services to our current 800 MHz radio system. BiII dedicated his career to maintaining
and improving our communications ~echnology to enhance the safety of our emergency
professionals and our citizens,
To honor his service and his accomplishments, 1 propose that the Collier County Sheriff's
Office Communications Center located within the new Emergency Services Complex be
officially recognized as the "William J. McNulty Communications Center". The Collier
County Sheriff's Office will arrange for a suitable plaque to be installed commemorating
the dedication of this critical operatiQDs center in honor of Bill. At the time of occupying
the new Communications Center, a dedication ceremony can be scheduled to
memorialize Bill's accomplishments and contributions to Collier County.
I and the many public safety members that have served with Bill appreciate your
consideration of this request.
