EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve the after-the-fact suhmittal of a United States Department of
Interior Rural Fire Assistance Grant application in the amount of $11,460 for the purchase
of equipment and protective clothing for the Ochopee Fire Control Distrlct
OBJECTIVE: To obtain after-the-fact approval of a United States Department ofInterior (DOl)
Rural Fire Assistance (RF A) Grant application for the purchase of equipment and protective
clothing to be used in wild-land fire fighting.
CONSIDERATIONS: Ochopee Fire Control is eligible for a Rural Fire Assistance Grant from
the Department of Interior for equipment and protective clothing used in wild-land fire fighting.
The grant will ensure an adequate supply of protective clothing and equipment.
This grant program was dormant for several years and Ochopee Fire Control was notified less
than a week prior to the deadline from the grantor that funding had been made available again.
Despite the quick turnaround, Ochopee was encouraged to submit an application since the
funding needs and costs had already been determined. To make the grant deadline, the County
Manager was requested to provide approval to submit the application to be followed by after-the-
fact approval by the BCC. This process is outlincd in CMA #5330.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of the grant projects is $ll,460. This grant is a 90110
matching grant split between the Department of Interior and the Ochopee Fire Control District
with DOl providing 90% of the costs at $10,314. If awarded, the District's share of 10% in the
amount of $1,146 will be funded from Ochopee Reserves of Fund 146, Ochopee Fire Control
District. Following the award, a grant agreement will be presented to the Board of County
Commissioners along with a budget amendment to transfer funds to Fund 1l8, Emergency
Management and Fire Grants.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management impact associated
with this Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: Upon award, the grant agreements will reqnire legal
review and approval.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the after-the-fact
submittal of a grant to United States Department of Interior (DOl) Rural Fire Assistance (RF A)
Grant program for the purchase of equipment and protective clothing to be used in wild-land fire
fighting.

County Manager Review and Approval of a Rural Fire Assistance grant application to
the United States Department of Interior
Ochopee Fire Control has developed a grant application on behalf of Collier County to request
funding to purchase protective clothing and equipment to be used in wild-land fire fighting. This is
a 90/1 0 grant requesting $] 0.3 I 4 from DOl and providing a local match of $ 1,146 from Ochopee
Reserves in Fund 146.
This grant progranl was dormant for several years and Ochopee Fire Control was notified less than
a week prior to the deadline from the grantor that funding had been made available again. Despite
the quick turnaround, Ochopee was encouraged to submit an application since the funding needs
and costs had already been determined. To make the grant deadline, your review and approval is
