Agenda Item No. 9F July 22, 2008 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Page 1 of 21 APPOINTMENT OF MEMBER(S) TO THE LAND ACQUISITION ADVISORY COMMITTEE OBJECTIVE: To appoint 1 member to fulfill the remainder of a vacant term, expiring on February 11, 2009, to the Land Acquisition Advisory Committee. CONSIDERATIONS: The Land Acquisition Advisory Committee has 1 vacancy due to a death with the term expiring on February 11, 2009. This 9- member committee was created by Ordinance No. 2002 -63 and their primary responsibility is to recommend to the BCC an Active Properties Acquisition List with qualified purchase recommendations of environmentally sensitive lands consistent with the goals of the Conservation Collier Land Acquisition Program. Membership of the committee shall comprise broad and balanced representation including environmental and conservation interests, agricultural and business interests, educational interests, and general civic and citizen interests within the County. Members shall have expertise, knowledge or interest in ecology, conservation of natural resources, real estate or land acquisition, land appraisal, land management, eco- tourism or environmental education. A list of the current membership is included in the backup. This committee currently has I vacancy. Sulecki, Coordinator, Conservation Collier Program Date: July 14, 2008 Subject: Recommendation for Conservation Collier Committee appointment On July 14, 2008, the Conservation Collier Land Acquisition Advisory Committee ( CCLAAC) met at their regularly scheduled monthly meeting and discussed the applications of three (3) persons to fill the vacancy created by the death of Kevin Kacer for the remainder of his term which is due to expire on February 11, 2009. Three applications were received. After discussion, and acknowledgement that all candidates were uniquely qualified, a motion was made and seconded for the CCLAAC to recommend one of the individuals for the appointment with a second recommended as back -up in case the selected individual was unable to serve for some reason. The motion was approved by a 6 to 1 vote, with one CCLAAC member absent and not voting. The applicants and specific recommendations are identified below. 1. Dr. Jon Staiger — recommended for appointment 2. Kris Van Lengen — recommended as back -up in case Dr. Staiger is unable to serve 3. Chet Hunt — application appreciated but not included in recommendation for appointment.
