PRESENTATION
The mandatory Non - Residential Recycling Ordinance adopted by the Board of County Commissioners
on July 27, 2004, established the Waste Reduction Awards Program, the WRAP award, to recognize
businesses and institutions for enhanced and innovative recycling programs.
The WRAP award is consistent with the guiding principles adopted by the Board of County
Commissioners on December 5, 2006: (1) Environmental and Growth Management Compliance, (2)
Airspace Preservation, (3) Operational Excellence and (4) Best Value Service.
The Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Prism Microwave for contributing
to the greater good of all of Collier County by being a "green" company, thereby helping to
prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill. Prism Microwave has enhanced their
recycling program and source reduction, and adopted eco- friendly business practices such as:
• Buying carbon credits through "carbon funds," which helps to reduce carbon and offset carbon
emissions.
• Being a paperless office. Faxes are received through email. Staff informs suppliers and customers
to send all invoices, quotes, packing slips, and correspondence through email. Business cards and
catalogs are accepted electronically or online only.
• Recycling all plastics, aluminum can, and glass. The cardboard and paper recycling container
behind the building is shared by the company next door, contributing to cost savings.
• Advocating waste reduction by reusing cardboard boxes for packaging and shipping needs. Staff
use reused office telephones.
• Selling all unused brass and aluminum products to a local scrap metal recycling facility.
• Recycling their consumer batteries and portable electronic devices.
The WRAP award program includes a certificate, a trophy, use of the WRAP logo and space on the
www.collier2ov.net/recvcles website showcasing their waste reduction and recycling program.
Therefore, the Solid Waste Management Department and the Board of County Commissioners
congratulate the owner, David Chamber, Operations Manager, Sam Windsor and all the
employees of Prism Microwave for their outstanding program and continued efforts to promote waste
reduction and recycling. Their leadership as a "green" company is a positive example to others and
will have a significant effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier County Landfill and protecting
the environment.
