WHER~AS, Fire Chief Bob Schank has diligently serve,d the residents of ~_ Naples for 30
years having joined the East Naples Fire Department as 11 firefighter In 1978 and
was transferred to the Fire Prevention Bu~au in 1981 where he was later promoted
to serve as the districts first fin marshal in J 982 ~fore rising fhrough the ranks
as a lieutenant, captain, assistant chief or. the fire prevenfiD/1 bureau and assistant
chief of operations untIl he was named actinp chief in No'IeITJber 1992 and permanent
fire chief in July. 1993 with his last day in office scheduled for t:>ecember 3rd: amt
WHEReAS, under Chief Schank's leadership, the fire district grew from two stations with 15
employees to five stations with more than J 00 emp/D)'llu in several divisions whose
missiDII stotement is to pravitk highly trai""" prafessiDllols, well-equipped to respond
effectively ft1 the Education, Prevention, and emergency Response needs of the
Community, giw:n the resources provided; and.
WHEREAS, the East Naples Fire Control and Rt!$cut! DiStrict was the first fire district in Collier
County to roll back the ad valorem t(J)( millage rate in compliance with tax reform
legMatkm: and.
WHEReAS, Chief Schank remains actiwe in several civicyroups, including the East Naples Kiwanis
Club and. East Naples Civic Association, wh~ he was past president, ond hos been a
long-time supporter of Lely High School, ~rom where his fDUr children graduoted,
volunteering . COUI1t'e~ h~~ower the years in various activities at Lely l70me football
games; and,. .
WHEReAS, Chief Schank is a dedicated and devoted family man and has always considef7'!d East
Naples Fire Deportment employees as well as the citizens of East Naples as part of
his family: and,
WHEREAS, Chief Schank's style of leading with conceq and compassion Will be missed by thou
that had the honor and privilege of working for him.
