EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners approve budget amendments
totaling $566,377 to ensure continuous funding of the Older Americans Act grant in the
Services for Seniors Program for FY 09.
OBJECTIVE: To amend the operating budget of the Older Americans Act to reflect the FY09
allocation and allow for uninterrupted support services to Services for Seniors' frail, elderly
clients.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Collier County Services for Seniors program has been providing in.
home support services to Collier County's frail elderly for over 30 years through the Older
Americans Act program. The grantor agency, Area Agency on Aging of Southwest Florida, has
provided the estimated amount to be allocated to Collier County Services for Seniors for the
FY09 funding cycle. The agreement between the Collier County Board of Commissioners and
the Area Agency on Aging will not be received until the latter part of December 2008. Once it is
received and reviewed by the County Attorney's Office, it will be submitted to the Board for
approval. The grant will be awarded for January I, 2009 through December 31, 2009 and
allocated as follows:

FISCAL IMPACT: The total estimated grant amount of $831,554 is funded from the State of
Florida grants and aids appropriation administered by the Area Agency on Aging of Southwest
Florida, Of the total grant amount, $566,377 will require budget amendments to recognize the
direct funding portion of the grant to the County. The balance of $265,177 will be retained by
the grantor agency to pay contracted vendors for in-home services rendered to Seniors in Collicr
County. A total of $49,300 in local matching funds was approvcd in the FY09 budget as a
contribution from the General Fund (001) to Services for Seniors (123).
RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners approve
the necessary budget amendments to ensure continuous funding of the Older American Act 2009
grant.
