PROCLAMA TION
WJ.I€R€AS, the mandatory Non-Residential Recycling Ordinance No. 2004-50 adopted by the Board of
County Commissioners on July 27. 2004, established the Waste Reduction Awards Program;
and.
WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses and institutions for enhanced and innovative recycling
programs; and.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Astaldi Construction Corporation
for contributing to the greater good of Collier County by promoting "green" business proctices,
thereby helping to prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill; and.
WHEREAS, Astaldi Construction Corporation demonstrates a good example for other businesses in the
area; and,
WHEREAS, some aspects of their recycling program & environmental initiatives include:
. Providing each staff member with bins for the easy collection of recyclable office paper.
Minimizing waste by recycling all paper, cardboard, aluminum and steel cans, plastics, and
printer cartridges.
. Purchasing office supplies, paper, and cleaning products made with recycled content or that
are environmentally friendly.
. Reducing the number of paper-based files by scanning docU/flents into electronic storage and
use of two-si"d printing. Re-using folders, dividers, and plastic sleeves.
. Utilizing environmental type construction such as; cutting of timbers to be sent to the lumber
yard and pulp mill for processing to make plywood and colored mulch.
. Tree trimmings and striping mixed with top soil to be utilized in the medians.
. Excavated material from channels and ponds, which are incorporated back into projects as
embankment sub-gra" and base material.
WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, 0 trophy, use of the WRAP logo and
space on the w_.collierqov.net/recvcles website showcasing their waste reduction and
recycling program.
NOW TJ.lEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the /JoQrd of County Commissioners of Collier Caunty, Florida. that
the Solid Waste Management Department and the Board of County Commissioners congratulate
Mario Lanciani, CEO; Jack Morgan, Project Manager; Clay Cross, Project Engineer; Carla
Morgan, and all the staff of Astaldi Construction Corporation for their outstanding green
business proctices and continued efforts to promote waste reduction and recycling. Their
''green team" promotes environmental awareness and sets a positive example for others. Their
initiatives will have 0 significant effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier County
Landfill and protecting the environment.
