PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, statistics from the U. S. Department of Justice show in a one year period 797, 500
children younger than 18 were reported missing resulting in an average of 2, 185
children being reported missing each day: and,
WHEREAS, since 1984, the National Center for Missing " Exploited Children has assisted law
enforcement with more than 154,000 missing child cases, resulting in the recovery
of more than 138,000 children,' and,
WHEREAS, the National Center for Missing" Exploited Children assists law enforcement in the
recovery of 96 % of domestically missing children, too many children remain
unfound,' one in six children featured in NCMEC's photo-distribution program are
recovered as a direct result of someone recognizing the child in the picture: and,
WHEREAS, May 25, 2009 will mark .the 27" National Missing Children's Day, a day serving as
an annual reminder to review efforts to reunite missing children with their families:
and,
WHEREAS, with a focus on prevention, tM "Tau 25M program was started to commemorate
National Missing Children's /:)Qy and enctJUrage8 ptlrents, guardians and trusted
adult role models to ttl/rte 25 minutes to talk to children about ways to stay safe,'
and,
WHEREAS, Collier County Qnd the National Center for Missing" Exploited Children are working
to bring ptWvention education programs, to partlllts and children through
partnerships with law enforcement, schools, librarie~, community centers,
churches, and other child-rearing organizations in our community: and
WHEREAS, on Monday, May 25, 2009 the National Center for Missing" Exploited Children will
join with Collier County and City law enforcement profusionals and volunteers at
the Dillard's store inside Coastland Mall to provide families safety brochures, free
child ID's and fingerprinting.
