WHEREAS, sudden cardiac arrest is a medical emergency and can happen any time,
anywhere, to anyone: ancl,
WHEREAS, every year, Emergency Medical Services respond to approximately 300,000
victims of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest: ancl,
WHEREAS, more than 92 percent of people who suffer a cardiac arrest away from
medical facilities can die from it, or be severely disabled because they do not
receive the medical assistance they need right away: ancl,
WHEREAS, unless early Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation are
provided within minutes of collapse, the chance of surviving any pre-hospital
intervention is low: ancl,
WHEREAS, effective bystander CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) provided
quickly after sudden cardiac arrest can greatly enhance a victim s chance of
survival: ancl,
WHEREAS, the American Heart Association encourages the public to get CPR training and
learn how to use an AED: ancl,
WHEREAS, Kathy Friday survived cardiac arrest four years ago because of the timely
use of an AED. Kathy and her husband Fritz are giving back to the community
by generously funding the purchase of the remaining AEDs needed in Collier
County Sheriffs vehicles, often the first to respond to the scene of an
emergency.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that June J through June 7, 2009, be designated as
THE KATHY & FRITZ FRIDAY CPR & AED AWARENESS WEEK
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 26th Day of May, 2009.
