Dear Scn;U.of1i~snrr:"

On behalf of Collier County, I would liku to thank you for your eftclr1s to protect Florida's pristine coast.
As the Senate develops new legislation on energy and climate issues, 1 urge you to continue this support by
opposing efforts to further open Florida's coastal waters for offshore drilling. Permitting drilling within
125 miles of the mainland would not only create unacceptable environmental hazards for residents, but also
drastically impair Florida's economy and reduce local government revenues in an already dismal economic
climate.
Your tireless efforts in 2006 helped ensure that legislation opening the Gulf of Mexico to offshore drilling
included a 125 mile no-drilling bufferto protect Florida's coasts until 2022, The Senate Energy and natural
Resources Committee's vote in t:'lvor of Senator Byron Dorgan's amendment to the new energy and climate
bill threatens to overtum this necessary and sensible provision. The Dorgan amendment completely
disregards the pivotal role that Florida's beautiful coastline plays in driving tbe state's multi-billion dollar
tourism industry, and would eliminate the buffer you helped create in 2006. It is an irresponsible piece of
legislation which proposes to exploit Florida's natural resources without even providing Florida a share of
drilling revenues.
Thank YOLl again for your past opposition to drilling along Florida's coastline. You have our full support in
your tight against ef{()lts to expand drilling off of Florida's coast.
