PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Drug Free Collier recognizes that underage drinking, abuse of prescription
drugs, and marijuana use have increased in our community over the last
decade and still remains a major societal issue; and,
WHEREAS, it is imperative that visible, unified prevention education efforts by
community members be launched to eliminate the demand for alcohol and
drugs; and,
WHEREAS, families face unprecedented pressures and stress imposed upon them by
the overwhelming challenges of today's society, and,
WHEREAS, Collier County residents must recommit to strengthening families,
neighborhoods, and communities, and to educating our young citizens to
counter the prob lems of abuse, and,
WHEREAS, research and data reflect, unquestionably, that our commitment to
education, prevention, and positive lifestyles is imperative and successful,
and,
WHEREAS, the Red Ribbm rep punts the nation's united effort to support this effort
and build healthy and safe communities; and,
WHEREAS, the 2000 _ Red Ribbon Celebration asks that the city my of Collier County
come tagetber to help keep our children, families, and communities safe,
healthy, amd drug free.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Comreissiame w of Collier
County, Fla, that the week of October 21st thrai October 31, 2009
be desiynwted as
RED RIBBON WEEK
and during this week, every person is encoww wd to wear and display a red
ribbon to symbolize our comMiftMt to estabAMMg healthy and safe
communities for our eiti.TiRrW, espeCia//y our children, and to participate in
events throughout the week that support positive lifestyles.
