Agenda 06/25/2019 Item #16D14 (Trees for Immokalee Sports Complex)06/25/2019
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a Grant Agreement accepting funding from the Collier County Community
Foundation in the amount of $10,000 to install trees in the Immokalee Sports Complex and authorize any
necessary Budget Amendments.
OBJECTIVE: To provide natural shade for spectators and participants at soccer fields of Immokalee
Sports Complex by planting palm trees near bleachers.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Community Foundation of Collier County (Foundation) informally reached
out to the Parks and Recreation Director to solicit park projects in Immokalee that the Foundation could
fund. Parks presented a variety of projects to the Foundation for consideration. Because the Foundation
reached out to the Parks and Recreation Division informally and the grant cycle was over, Parks
collaborated with the Foundation in good faith that the award would be accepted by the Board of County
Commissioners (Board).
On May 1, 2019, Parks received a Grant Agreement letter from the Foundation, awarding $10,000 to
purchase and install trees to shade the bleachers of the soccer fields at the Immokalee Sports Complex
which would improve the health and well-being of the participants and spectators.
Parks is seeking the Board’s approval to accept the funds and execute the agreement and any necessary
Budget Amendments.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost for the project is estimated to be $10,000. A budget amendment will
be required within Public Services Grant Fund (709) Project 33630 in the amount of $10,000.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact to the Growth Management Plan related to
this action.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This Item is approved for form and legality and requires a majority vote
for Board action. -JAB
RECOMMENDATION: To Accept and execute the funding from the Collier County Community
Foundation in the amount of $10,000 to install trees in the Immokalee Sports Complex per the Grant
Agreement and authorize any necessary Budget Amendments.
