WHEREAS, Collier County, like mnr,; • „r errs of Florida and of the United States in yeneral, is facing
problems of foreclosure and related economic difficulties, with thousands of properties
having been foreclosed to date, and many more thousands facing foreclosure in the
future, the incalculable effect this has on families, neighborhoods and the very essence
of what Collier County stands for as a place to live has prompted a call to action across
the community; and
WHEREAS, the Collier County Foreclosure Task Force was formed in February of 2008 as a
cooperative effort involving the Legal Aid Service of Collier County and the Collier
County bar Association to promote foreclosure prevention; and
WHEREAS, the Collier County Foreclosure cask Force initiative has grown in size and scope to include
numerous other members, including public, private, and non - profit agencies, and has
conducted multiple free foreclosure workshops and pro bono clinics that havc assisted
hundreds of homeowners in Collier County at -risk of foreclosure, and thousands more
through a multimedia website it created,, and
WHEREAS, the Collier County Foreclosure 7esk Force is holdinq a free foreclosure workshop open to
the public on Monday, November P 2009 at gulf Coast High School from 5:00 p. m. to
8.00 P. m, in fhe school audlto. ium; and,
WHEREAS, this will be the perfect venue to visit if you, the public, have any questions aborit
foreclosure, as a large number of pro bono attorneys, as well as HUD (Housmy and
Urban Development) certified credit and foreclosure intervention counselors and
realtors, and a host of professionals and other agencies representatives will be there to
quide you to resources and the assistance that is available now locally for those at risk
of foreclosure,` discussions will include avoidance of scams, loan modification, and how to
market a ,Property in short sale, among so many other to the point topics, this event will
also address tenants facing foreclosures and give them the opportunity to find answers,
as well as those associated with Homeowners Associations; and,
WHEREAS, there is an unquestionable need within the community for such a workshop, and the
Collier County Foreclosure cask Force earnestly hopes that the full range of information
and assistance that will be present will encourage those needing help to attend.
NOW THEREFORE in recognition of the leadership, pro bona service, and dedication to the
community demonstrated by the Collier County Foreclosure Task Force members, and to
encourage attendance at the upcoming free workshop, be it proclaimed by the Board of
County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that November 9, 2009, be designated
as
Collier County Foreclosure Task Force workshop Day
